PROGRAM OBJECTIVES Program objectives, as defined by the Dental Assisting program, are utilized to prepare individuals in the program to become competent dental assisting practitioners. Upon successful completion of the Dental Assisting program, graduates will be able to: 1. Utilize effective communicative skills. 2. Participate as a member of the dental health team in the coordination and delivery of patient care. 3. Teach the patient adequate nutrition as it relates to health and the teeth. 4. Perform four-handed assisting skills to assist the dentist in general dentistry. 5. Perform common laboratory procedures. 6. Implement beginning skills for assisting in the dental specialties. 7. Expose, process and mount dental radiographs. 8. Demonstrate skills in organizing and maintaining the secretarial assistant position. 9. Assist the dentist during office emergencies. 10. Demonstrate acceptable behavior by practicing within the ethical and legal guidelines of the Dental Assistant. 11. Participate in continuing education by: a. reading current literature. b. attending continuing education programs through formal and/or informal educational experiences. c. networking with members of the dental health team to impart knowledge.
