Spanish Teacher Education from Ithaca College is a Campus Bachelor Teaching degree that prepares you for a Education career. Graduates of Ithaca's teacher education program in Spanish are well prepared and highly marketable as teachers at the secondary school level. To teach Spanish effectively requires not only a proficiency in the language but a grounding in the literature and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. At Ithaca you'll attend language classes four times a week and listen to Spanish news broadcasts in our language center. You'll study contemporary Spanish films, participate in Spanish heritage festivities, and prepare regional cuisine. And for true immersion you may choose to live in Vecinos, our new Spanish language and Hispanic culture learning community, study in Spain or Latin America for a semester -- or do both. As for developing your teaching skills, you may want to consider taking a short training to be an undergraduate teaching assistant in an elementary Spanish class on campus. In your senior year, you'll teach Spanish at both the middle school and high school levels. Under the supervision of a master teacher, you'll prepare lesson plans, teach classes, and learn the rhythm of public school life. Teacher education majors in Spanish work toward initial certification in New York State for grades 7 through 12.
