Graphic Design from Iowa State University is a Campus Bachelor Design degree that prepares you for a Art and Design career. A basic graphic design education must prepare students for an immediate goal (design practice) and a long-term goal (continuing personal and creative growth). Graphic design students learn to communicate messages using a broad range of ideas, images, and media in order to mediate between a client and an audience. Graphic design is not exclusively a studio art. It is our goal that students from ISU graduate experienced in the procedures of the lecture hall and seminar room and familiar with the location and use of the library stacks. Most importantly, they must learn that they may be designing while walking across campus or taking a philosophy class. While not exclusively a studio art, the studio environment provides for hands-on visual discovery and practical experience with technical facilities, processes and terms. The studio further supports different kinds of learning: the development of practical experience, the exploration of theory and its application to specific problems, and research and experimentation. The learning environment should stimulate curiosity and creativity, explore graphic design's cultural role, rigorously evaluate design performance, and extend the understanding of graphic design as an emerging discipline.
