We need motivated and dedicated early childhood teachers who will be prepared to teach young children birth through grade 3, including special education . You will learn how to assess each child's needs in all areas of development. You will learn and practice effective guidance strategies to deal with a variety of challenging behaviors. You'll work with families, educators, and other professionals to write plans and coordinate interventions to ensure that each child reaches their full potential. You will also learn to develop curriculum that nurtures each child's progress and makes learning feel like play. There is an exemplary child care center housed here on campus, our Child Development Lab School. You will be involved with the Lab School starting in your first semester, observing from specially-designed observation rooms and later in other classes you will be interacting with the children face-to-face. You will be supervised and provided with lots of feedback and given support to improve your interactions with young children and teaching staff. At Iowa State you will be prepared to help all children reach their utmost potential, regardless of their abilities. You will receive more preparation than students at other universities for working with children with special needs.
