Purpose The purposes of the Pastoral Emphasis program are the following: 1. To provide concentrated biblical studies in a formal academic and spiritual setting. 2. To provide the atmosphere wherein a student may recognize and respond to the leading of the Spirit of God into a specific area of vocational ministry such as the pastorate, assistant pastorate, evangelism, youth work, or church planting. 3. To help the student gain the necessary knowledge and skills necessary to successfully carry out such ministry. 4. To prepare the student to stand strong in the historic Fundamentalist, Baptist tradition. Aims The aims of the Pastoral Emphasis program, as shown below, are intended to help International Baptist College achieve its above stated mission and purposes. Therefore the students will 1. learn accurate biblical information and theology through numerous Bible and Theology classes, 2. come to understand sound and effective procedures for practicing ministry (teaching, preaching, serving, administering) by taking practical preparation courses, 3. grow in their relationships (personal with God, social with family and friends, and ministry with practical experience) through chapels, residence hall and activity devotions, services and classes, and mentoring opportunities, 4. gain practical skills through leadership opportunities in College groups, internships in both the home church and other local churches, summer ministries, and missions trips, 5. develop separatist convictions through classroom training, mentoring relationships, ministering opportunities in churches of like faith and standards, and guest lecturing, 6. gain a balance in understanding and coping with life's challenges through general education courses and courses in apologetics and philosophy, and 7. have an appreciation of the historical development of biblical Christianity through history courses and special lectures.
