As a Theater major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, you'll take your talent and your knowledge of theater to a higher level, developing your skills on stage and off. IUP's Theater program is designed to give you choices. For your core classes, you'll choose from technical and performance classes such as stagecraft , basic lighting, directing, and acting.. You'll also choose one of four concentration areas: Design/Tech, Theater History and Theory, Performance, or Musical Theater. As a Theater major, you'll take part in theater productions in a variety of capacities for at least six semesters. Theater-by-the-Grove and the IUP Dance Theater Company support numerous creative opportunities in six productions each year, including one musical. Additional creative opportunities are provided through studio, touring, and workshop productions. An audition or presentation is required for entry into the Theater major at IUP. As part of the Acorn Project, up to twenty-five production opportunities are available to students who are encouraged to explore playwrighting, acting, and directing. Waller Hall's Studio Theater serves as the primary performance space. Free electives for this major offer the opportunity to strengthen job prospects through courses in radio, television, foreign language, journalism, business, art, music, dance, or other areas.
