The areas include medical sociology, gerontology, juvenile delinquency, interpersonal and family sociology, labor and industry, and community development. An internship is required in this track. A minor may be added with careful planning. Some minors to consider are Women's Studies, Child and Family Studies, Criminology, or Psychology. You could also explore another area of interest with a minor in Art, Theater, Dance, Journalism, or Religious Studies. What You'll Become The Bachelor of Arts in Sociology following the Human Services track prepares you for a career in human services agencies, medical social work, probation and corrections, and community organizing. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment of social scientists is expected to increase at an average pace of about 10 percent through 2016. However, employment of social workers, the report adds, is expected to increase by 22 percent from 2006 to 2016. One factor behind this growth is the growing elderly population. Job growth for mental health and substance abuse social workers may reach 30 percent during the decade forecasted, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
