What You'll Do Multitalented students who finish high school with achievements in both theater and music may not want to concentrate in only one area in college. At Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a student talented in acting and music can find enrichment in both these areas and also explore dance as an Interdisciplinary Fine Arts major taking the Musical Theater track. This track is primarily based in the Department of Theater and Dance with a secondary base in the Music Department. By incorporating music and dance classes with the emphasis on theater, you can customize your degree to emphasize your strengths and build skills for the job market. To gain a well-rounded educational foundation, you'll take a variety of required courses and electives. Some of the required courses include acting classes, dance classes (in jazz and tap/ballroom), and private voice classes. Some of the electives include choreography, ethnic dance, stage movement, fundamentals of theatrical design, and directing. In this major, you will also be required to take part in several productions or ensembles. Theater-by-the-Grove and the IUP Dance Theater Company support numerous creative opportunities in six productions each year, including one musical. Additional creative opportunities are provided through studio, touring, and workshop productions. As part of the Acorn Project, students are encouraged to explore playwrighting, acting, and directing in up to twenty-five available productions each year. What You'll Become The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts with a Musical Theater track prepares you to pursue a career in the musical theater industry or in jobs related to the arts.
