The Elementary Childhood Education Program is known for high expectations, field experiences from the start, and a supportive environment with the following key features: A cohort approach composed of teacher candidates progressing through the program of study together, from entrance into the teacher education program through graduation. Small class size to allow for higher degrees of individual mentoring and instructor-student interactions. Program is grounded in diverse field experiences in a variety of settings at the elementary school level. Program is tailored to meet the Indiana Office of Educator Licensing and Development (OELD), both content and developmental in the areas of knowledge, performance, and dispositions, Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC) Standards and National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) Standards. The initial teacher education program is fully accredited at the state (OELD) and national (NCATE) level and licensure programs have been approved by the Indiana Department of Education . Technology integration throughout the program, to include the development of teacher candidate electronic portfolios, aligned to Division of Education, Indiana OELD and NCATE standards. Upon completion of all degree and program requirements, students will be eligible to apply to the Indiana Department of Education Office of Educator Licensing and Development (OELD) for licensure in Elementary Education.
