Nursing Practical Nursing from Hutchinson Community College is a Campus Associate Nursing Education degree that prepares you for a Nursing career. Description: Admission Policies This nursing program prepares students for entry-level positions as a graduate practical nurse . The program combines theory (classroom) and practice (clinical/lab experience). The curriculum emphasizes the roles of a practical nurse as a provider of care, manager of care, and member of the discipline of nursing. Two programs are available. The weekday program meets Monday-Friday for 12 months. Thirty-six students are admitted each year through a selective process. The Evening/Friday program meets for 24 months and selects up to 20 students every other year. Upon completion of either of these 1225 clock hour programs, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Admission to Practical Nursing Program The following steps must be completed before admission to the nursing program can occur: 1. Submit application and other forms to HCC Practical Nursing Program with official transcripts from high school and other colleges attended. 2. Submit application for admission to the weekday nursing program between August 1 and January 15. All application materials for this program must be received before February 15. Applications for the Evening/Friday nursing proram may be submitted between April 1 and September 15 of odd years. All application materials for this program must be receied before October 15 of odd years. 3. A $25 non-refundable application fee must accompany the application. 4. An English proficiency test or college level English course must be completed prior to admission if English is your second language. 5. All applicants are required to take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) administered by the school. This test is designed to predict academic readiness of applicants. The four subtests are Math, Science, English and Reading. Study guides are available for purchase. 6. All applicants must submit three names, addresses, and phone numbers for references. Two professional references are required. 7. Essay: A word-processed essay will need to be submitted, and will be contained in the application file. 8. All applicants must attend an information session. 9. All applicants must be CPR certified by the American Heart Association healthcare provider level before entering the program. A class will be held at the school before class begins. A sample of the scoring sheet will be available upon request. Applicants will be rank ordered based upon the total points received. Waiting List Students on the waiting list must continue to meet all admission criteria to be able to fill vacancies if they become available. Reapplication Persons who are not accepted into the program may reapply and you are encouraged to increase rank/points. Persons who have withdrawn from the accepted class and/or waiting list may be exempt from retaking the TEAS exam, but must submit the non-refundable application fee each year. Progression in the Nursing Program Students must receive grades of C or above in all courses in the nursing curriculum in order to progress to the next semester. If a student receives a grade lower than a C in a course required during a given semester, withdrawl from the program is required.
