Health Education - Husson University

Health Education from Husson University is a Campus Bachelor Teaching degree that prepares you for a Education career. Husson's Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education provides students with an avenue to major in Health Education, Physical Education or obtain dual certification. Some reasons to consider Husson's B.S. in Health Education program: Maine Teaching Certification is reciprocal with other states. Note: Health Educations students should check with other states that require the teaching certification. Some K-12 school systems prefer to hire dual certification students who can teach both Physical Education and Health Education . Husson University has the only teacher education program in the State of Maine to offer both health education and physical education certifications. Husson's Health Education program serves as a strong compliment for our Physical Education program since many physical education teachers in schools are also responsible for teaching health education classes. The B.S. in Health Education can be gained by taking an additional course each semester, so a Physical Education student could graduate within the four-year time frame, or take additional semesters to complete both certifications. First-year Clinical observations and then Practicum experiences throughout the four years allow students immediate access to K-12 schools in both Health Education and Physical Education. There are five field experiences prior to student teaching! Student teaching is split between Health Education and Physical Education once PRAXIS I and II are passed. Extensive tutorial support is offered for PRAXIS I and II. Portfolio work (required for certification) is completed in the student's final year during the capstone seminar. Husson students can attend the Maine Association for Health, Physical Education , Recreation and Dance (MAHPERD) state convention and have earned awards, done presentations and presided over sessions. Attending the Eastern District Association (AAHPERD) convention is also possible. Husson University emphasizes experiential learning!
