The program also offers the state-approved nursing assistant course in preparation for the state exam for certification. A graduate of the Health Occupations program should be able to: Practice safety procedures in a health care setting. Understand legal and ethical issues. Administer first aid and CPR. Take patient histories. Administer personal and hygienic care to patients. Perform basic medical procedures (e.g. take and record vital signs). Function as a nurse assistant. Contribute to therapeutic care. Assist in a variety of diagnostic testing procedures. Assist with minor surgery. Communicate through proper use of medical terminology. Assist in physical and occupational therapy. Function as an EKG technician, phlebotomist or respiratory assistant. Chart and maintain accurate medical records.
