Program Format: Campus Program Level: Master

3D Reality from Howard University is a Campus Master Sculpture degree that prepares you for a Art and Design career. The goals and objectives of the 3D Reality concentration is to provide student respect for and competency in articulating 3D media for the purpose of communicating informed ideas, thoughts, and opinions. The program seeks a balance between a mastery of skills within the discrete disciplines of ceramics and/or sculpture , while encouraging students to create beyond disciplinary boundaries. Critical to this preparation, the future of 3D Reality is in defining its interface with other media and processes, with an emphasis on instructing the student in marrying materials and concepts/narratives to perspectives he/she desires to communicate. At the foundational level, objectives are: (1) to teach the articulation and design of three-dimensional form, and (2) to introduce the anatomy of the human form for its narrative and abstract potential. The Ceramics Program provides students with a technical foundation in basic hand and wheel formation, glaze calculation, clay formulation and a range of finishing and firing techniques. Advanced students are encouraged to explore the full range of possibilities in clay. The ceramics unit is designed to train students to become the traditional production potter; the ceramic sculptor and the visionary student who want to combine and experiment with state of the arts ceramic materials and technology to create their visual voice. The sculpture component of 3D Reality occupies approximately 3000 square feet of the Department's Fine Arts Atelier. This open-space facility is a multi-use environment with the flexibility for bronze and aluminum casting. Presently there are gas and electric welding, clay, plaster, wood and wax working activities taking place, sometimes simultaneously, within the studio. Independent Research and conceptual development is encouraged throughout the Sculpture program. View more details on Howard University .
