Majors Students can pursue two options in accounting - the traditional major or a special major designed to prepare students to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). The traditional major requires 27 semester hours in accounting courses. CPA Major The Bachelor of Business Administration -- Certified Public Accountant degree program is a five-year, 150-hour program which satisfies the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy's requirements. To be eligible to sit for the CPA exam, students must have completed 150 hours of college study with at least 36 hours in accounting at the time of application. Students also must fulfill the basic B.B.A. requirements. This program provides to each accepted applicant tuition relief up to 24 total hours taken during the fifth year. This relief would be one-half of the full per hour tuition rate. To receive continued support, students must maintain at least a 3.00 grade point average for the first semester. Students will also have internship opportunities to provide invaluable experience with local CPA firms, local industry and/or local government units.
