Biomedical Science from Hood College is a Campus Master Biomedical degree that prepares you for a Science career. Our 33-credit program offers lecture and laboratory instruction leading to a M.S. degree with two tracks. The first track includes a 6-credit research thesis; the second includes a comprehensive exam and oral defense of a mock grant proposal. The thesis track is designed for students who anticipate careers in research or who plan further graduate studies at the doctoral level. The culminating thesis work may be done either at the student's work site, in an area of mutual interest to the student and the laboratory director, or at Hood, working with a Hood faculty member on a topic related to a current research interest on the campus. Since most students are employed full-time, we offer classes in the late afternoon and evening on Hood's campus. Six to eight biomedical science courses are offered each semester; additionally, courses are offered during summer sessions. Therefore, a student may complete the program, including the thesis project, in two to three years. The maximum time allowed for completion is seven years. After the completion of 12 credits of course work with at least a B average, a student qualifies for degree candidacy. At this time, degree candidates, in consultation with their academic advisers, elect either the thesis or the non-thesis track and select their elective courses. This program is approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission. Hood College is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
