Phlebotomy from Health Opportunity Technical Center is a Campus Certificate Pharmacy degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. Phlebotomy Program Description - PHL The 180 clock hour program provides training in acceptable, communication, professional and interpersonal skills. It teaches the student the role and function of the phlebotomist as part of the health care team. The student will study the circulatory system and anatomical structures comprehensively in relationship to the function of performing phlebotomy procedures. The course teaches the student to recognize and identify collection reagents, supplies, equipment and chemical substances that interfere with the process of phlebotomy. The student learns infection control techniques and how to maintain safety measures in the clinical setting. The course stresses acceptable procedures for transporting, accessioning and processing specimens. The student is taught the legal and ethical responsibilities of the phlebotomy aide as it relates to care of the patient. The student can receive a Diploma of completion with the satisfactory completion of the Core curriculum and phlebotomy. The prerequisite Health Science Core is included in the program. To begin this program the student must successfully complete the school's entrance exam. PHL Occupational Outcomes This course provides training in acceptable professional, communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate knowledge of the phlebotomy legal and ethical responsibility HIPAA. 4. Demonstrate an understanding of and apply wellness and disease concepts. 5. Recognize and practice safety and security procedures including domestic violence. 6. Recognize and respond to emergency situations BLS-CPR. 7. Recognize and practice infection control procedures OSHA. 8. Demonstrate computer skills. 9. Demonstrate employability skills. 10. Demonstrate knowledge of blood borne diseases, including AIDS. 11. Apply basic math and science skills. 12. Discuss phlebotomy in relations to the health care setting. 13. Identify the anatomical body structure and function of body systems in relation to services performed by the phlebotomist . 14. Recognize and identify collection reagents, supplies equipment, and interfering chemical substances. 15. Demonstrate skills and knowledge necessary to perform phlebotomy. 16.
