Medical Records Transcribing Clerk Program Description- MTC This 1260 clock hour program is designed to prepare the student to enter the work force as a medical transcriber. The Medical transcriber is a language specialist who transcribes dictation made by physicians or other professional staff in order to document patient care. The curriculum is designed to produce the highest quality practitioner in this field. The content includes medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes including signs and symptoms, pharmacology, knowledge of laboratory values, grammar and punctuation, health care delivery systems and knowledge of specialty areas, health information services, ethics and legalities relative to the practice, safety and security procedures, word processing transcription , and employability skills. The training has theory, laboratory, and clinical components. Laboratory activities are integrated into the theory setting and reinforced in the clinical area. This program has entrance requirements as follows: medical terminology examination, typing skills of a minimum of 65wpm. and basic computer Skills. The prerequisite Health Science Core is included in the program. To begin this program the student must successfully complete the school's entrance exam. Demonstrate an understanding of and apply wellness and disease concepts. 5. Recognize and practice safety and security procedures domestic violence BLS-CPR. 6. Recognize and respond to emergency situations. 7. Recognize and practice infection control procedures OSHA. 8. Demonstrate computer skills. 9. Demonstrate employability skills. 10.
