Medical Assistant Program Description - MA This 1515 clock hour program is designed to prepare students for employment as a Medical Assistant. The program also provides supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in this occupation by allowing eligibility to sit the certifying or registered examination CMA/RMA after successful completion of the program. The content includes, but is not limited to, communication and interpersonal skills, overview of human anatomy and physiology with emphasis on medical office skills, medical terminology and transcription, patient care techniques, medical instrumentation, drugs, interpretation of monitoring and testing results, medical ethics, wellness and rehabilitation, safe and efficient work practices, CPR-(BLS) and employability skills. This course provides reinforcement of fundamental skills in English, mathematics and science appropriate for the job preparatory programs. This is accomplished through vocational classroom instruction and applied laboratory procedures or practice. This cluster of programs focuses on broad, transferable skills and stresses understanding and demonstration of the following elements of the health care industry; planning, management, finance, technical and production skills, underlying principles of technology, labor issues, community issues and health, safety, and environmental issues. The student may receive an Occupational Associate Degree with the satisfactory completion of the Medical Assistant curriculum which includes the successful completion of either the certifying or registered examination CMA/RMA.
