Health Unit Coordinator Program Description - HUC This 500 clock hour program prepares the student to enter the work force, as a Health Unit coordinator on a nursing unit or in a skilled nursing facility with mastery of required clerical and receptionist skills. The unit coordinator works closely with health professionals providing communication, and support to ancillary departments in the collection and dissemination of patient information. The skills learned are those of communication, interpersonal skills, typing, and use of the computer, ordering of supplies, and processing of physician orders. The student learns medical terminology to process the ordering of diagnostic test, and treatments, while monitoring results and communicating with staff. The student will also receive training on monitoring of telemetry patients. This program has a business laboratory and clinical component. The prerequisite Health Science Core is included in the program. To begin this program the student must successfully complete the school's entrance exam. HUC Occupational Outcomes This program prepares the student to enter the work force as a Health Unit Coordinator on a nursing unit or in a skilled nursing facility with mastery of required clerical and receptionist skills.
