Mission Statement for Business Administration Major?Golf Course Operations Focus Area Hastings College in collaboration with Central Community College-Hastings (CCC) provides a course of study in business management and horticulture that will prepare a student for a career in any aspect of business management, but due to the focus area, golf course operations will be a special preparation. Th e program will give the student a solid liberal arts background, a comprehensive business management preparation and a technical preparation in turf grasses, agricultural chemicals, soil analysis, pest management and their application to golf courses in particular. This major and focus aspires, within the context of a liberal arts environment to: 1. Prepare students to meet the challenges of managing a facility that is part of a major recreational industry. From inventory management of retail merchandise, to budgeting and cash fl ow needs, to the myriad of horticulture issues a golf course presents, a student will prepared to be a competent manager of both the course and the merchandising/marketing/finance components. 2. Help students develop computer proficiency and skills in written and oral communication, creative and critical thinking, research and problem solving, and teamwork. 3. Help students develop a global perspective, sensitivity to ethical issues, and an appreciation for diversity. 4.
