Very roughly, the requirements break into five groups: -Course requirements: Students must take a specified number of courses and distribute these courses among various areas, so as to gain a broad education in philosophy . -Logic requirement: Students must achieve competence in basic logic. -Language requirement: Students must achieve a reasonable reading competence in a foreign language (typically, German). -Second-year Paper: Students must demonstrate an ability to identify and pursue an extended, independent research project.
