School Psychology from Georgian Court University is a Campus Master Educational Psychology degree that prepares you for a Psychology career. The School Psychology program prepares its students to address the psychological, emotional, and behavioral needs of school-age children and adolescents, particularly as these issues compromise education. Toward this end, the program offers its students a broad range of knowledge and skills which are essential for the provision of psychological services in the schools. Students in the program will be afforded an opportunity to develop skills in psychodiagnostic assessment, counseling, and other school-based interventions through the program?s coursework and its practicum and externship experiences. The program is recommended for those graduate students who wish to work with children and adolescents either in public and private school settings or in child and adolescent mental health facilities and for those who wish to enroll in doctoral studies in school psychology. Completion of the 75-credit master?s and certification programs, including the 1200-hour externship, will allow the graduate to sit for the Nationally Certified School Psychologist certification exam. The Program: The M.A. level provides a strong background in the major theories, knowledge, and issues from the discipline of psychology , with a special emphasis on children and adolescents and on the application of these principles in school settings. It also offers a strong foundation for students who plan to pursue additional graduate study toward certification. However, the M.A. program alone does not enable students to function as school psychologists. At the conclusion of the credit requirements for the M.A. program, students will complete a comprehensive examination.
