Powell Creative Writing Awards, and the activities of the Creative Writing Club, students have many ways for their voices to be recognized and published. In addition, students have the opportunity to attend poetry and fiction readings and workshops by nationally known writers who come to campus every year as part of the Writing and Linguistics department's Visiting Writers program and the Georgia Poetry Circuit. Future Graduates & Job Opportunities While a fortunate few creative writers support themselves with earnings from the publication and sales of their work, the Creative Writing concentration also prepares students for a wide variety of writing-related professions. Many creative writing undergraduates pursue an advanced degree in creative writing, which gives them additional time to develop their writing skills and to connect with other writers and writing mentors. Also, a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) or Ph.D. in creative writing qualifies them to teach writing at the college level. While an advanced degree may also be helpful in securing a non-teaching job, most writing-related positions do not require a graduate degree .
