African-American Studies from Georgia Institute of Technology - Main Campus is a Campus Certificate African American degree that prepares you for a Liberal Arts career. Students may choose courses in areas such as African-American History, Southern History, Twentieth Century History, and the Immigrant Experience, among other topics. Requirements The Certificate in African-American Studies , offered jointly by the School of History, Technology, and Society and the School of Literature, Communication and Culture, recognizes the achievement of concentrated knowledge in a subject area. This certificate allows students to choose courses on such topics as African-American history, southern history, twentieth-century literature and history, the immigrant experience, and explorations of race in America. Twelve hours of appropriate HTS and LCC courses, approved by the adviser (see course list below for specific requirements). Nine of the twelve hours must be at the 3000 level or above. At least one course must be taken from HTS and one from LCC. One course from outside HTS and LCC may be counted toward the certificate , with approval of the adviser. Certain course substitutions may be approved by the adviser, including appropriate Special Topics courses and seminars.
