Welcome to the Political Science undergraduate program at The George Washington University . The Political Science Department has more than forty full-time faculty conducting and publishing cutting-edge research in their fields. The Political Science Department, according to U.S. News and World Reports, is one of most highly ranked departments in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. These accomplished faculty regularly teach courses for the more than 700 political science majors and minors. Students majoring in political science gain a broad knowledge of the discipline by taking advantage of our large faculty with their diverse expertise. In addition to three introductory classes in Comparative Politics, American Government and Politics and International Relations, students take at least one upper level course in each of five areas of political science: Comparative Politics, American Politics, Research Methods, Political Thought, and International Politics, Law and Organizations. A senior year Pro-Seminar and four upper-level electives may be chosen from one or more of the areas. We also offer a Public Policy focus major within the undergraduate program. The majority of Political Science majors take advantage of being located in the Nation's Capital. Many students intern with members of the House and Senate, the White House, NGOs, embassies, lobbying groups, and federal agencies.
