Program Description The Wood Manufacturing Technology program provides you with the knowledge and skills necessary for job success in this industry. The principal emphasis in this program is the efficient and proper use of terminology, machinery, and processes related to the secondary wood processing industry. You will develop proficiency in using hand and portable power tools, as well as stationary woodworking machinery, including CNC equipment. Your training includes related blueprint reading, estimating, AutoCAD and tool maintenance. Teamwork, individual initiative and other workplace skills are stressed. This is a full-time day program, 45 weeks long, with entry in January and August as openings exist. You are required to purchase a basic set of hand tools and necessary materials. Program Outcomes The primary goal of the Wood Manufacturing Technology program is to prepare skilled woodworkers for initial employment in the secondary wood products manufacturing industry, which includes the fields of: cabinetmaking, furniture, millwork and specialty products. To achieve that goal, graduates of this program will be able to do the following: Safely, efficiently, and appropriately use a wide variety of hand and power tools; as well as accurately setup and operate manually controlled and computer-controlled woodworking machines. Demonstrate knowledge of wood and non-wood materials by selecting and efficiently using them in ways that are safe and appropriate to the application. Accurately communicate technical information and instructions, whether verbal, written, or graphical, in individual and group working environments. Work effectively to complete assignments individually or as a team member. Apply learned technical skills to new challenges while demonstrating the ability to anticipate any process errors and take corrective actions.
