Program Description The "Monster Shop" Outdoor Power Equipment Technician program is a partnership between Fox Valley Technical College , Ariens, Briggs and Stratton, Snap-On Tools and Stihl. It is designed to provide you with the technical skills and knowledge to service and maintain small internal combustion engines , equipment chassis, hydraulics, and electrical systems used on zero turn lawnmowers, garden tractors, tillers, snow blowers, generators, chain saws, line trimmers, and blowers. This is a one-year, 36-credit technical diploma program. All courses are at the associate degree level which allows you to transfer these credits into an Associate of Applied Science or possibly a bachelor's degree. All program courses emphasize practical, hands-on learning. Classes are held Monday through Thursday, allowing you to work two days each week applying the skills you have learned. Internships are required as part of the program and you are encouraged to seek employment at OPE service and repair businesses in their area. Tools and supplies are provided; however, you must purchase you own safety glasses and "Monster Shop" uniforms. You are also required to provide your own set of tools for the work experience course. The program is accredited by the Equipment and Engine Training Council (EETC) and is a testing agent for technician certification through the Outdoor Power Equipment and Engine Service Association (OPEESA). As a graduate, you can become a certified technician in four cycle engines, two cycle engines , compact diesels, generators, drivelines/hydro and electrical systems. Snap-On Tools provides the top graduate with a free tool box and 50% savings on tool purchases for all students. Ariens, Briggs & Stratton and Stihl each provide students with new equipment and instructional aids for learning current technology .
