During the second year, you are given the opportunity to specialize in four out of five areas of natural resources . Since practically all positions in natural resources are outdoor jobs, you receive extensive field experience to acquaint you with the practical, on-the-job situations encountered by technicians. During your second year, you take field trips to areas where various aspects of natural resources can be observed. You receive an associate degree upon completion of this two-year technical program. Program Outcomes Graduates of the Natural Resources Technician program will be able to: Record field data to establish management plans, perform topographic and boundary surveys, and conduct inventories of vegetation, wildlife, soil, and water resources . Educate the public about natural resources. Conduct site restoration and rehabilitation practices and protect resources from wildfire. Design and construct water management devices and assist with the acquisition and development of management areas. Repair/maintain buildings and equipment. Maintain recreational areas. Draft topographic, profile, and cross-sectional maps using computer equipment (GIS/GPS), and designate specifications for natural resources practices. Perform administrative functions, such as develop and interpret contracts, prepare reports and training programs, analyze and investigate new information and technologies, and understand and comply with safety and occupational regulations.
