Program Description In this two-year program, instruction of interior design principles is given on a competency basis, with two entry points of August and January. A focus of your instruction involves internships which allow you to work in the various phases of interior design in cooperation with local businesses. Gaining the basic design principles and realism of the diversified field of interior design is the goal of the program. Upon graduation, you receive an associate degree . Program Outcomes Graduates of Fox Valley Technical College Interior Design Program will be prepared to work in the residential and commercial areas of interior design. Specialized areas in which graduates may be employed are carpet and flooring, kitchen design , furniture consultant, paint and faux finishes, accessories and many other specialized areas of interior design. Understand many facets of interior design , including but not limited to: textiles, history, color theory, business principles, sales principles, kitchen/bath design, visual display and computer-aided design . Demonstrate the principles and elements of design when developing and implementing space plan, material, furniture and accent selections that portray the design concept and meet functional, budgetary environmental and safety requirements. Possess the skills to carry a design from initial concept, to professional proposal, to selling the design concept, to completed installation. Create a physical representation of interior design concepts to visually communicate the design scheme to the end user through space plans and elevation/perspective drawings, and material and product specifications. Possess iinterpersonal communication/listening skills to clearly and effectively present the design concept to meet the needs of the client. Provide project management services including project budgets, schedules and collaboration with other building specialists.
