Program Description The Automotive Technician program prepares you for the typical automotive service department. It is two school years in length. You can enroll every semester as openings occur. If you are a nontraditional student or a student who wants training in the automotive field, but does not want to complete the general education courses required for the associate degree programs, then this program is well suited for you. Automotive areas covered include fuel injection systems, on-board diagnostics (OBDII), climate control systems, basic and advanced electrical systems, brakes and anti-lock brakes, manual drivelines and transmissions, automatic transmissions, steering and suspension systems, entertainment systems, engine rebuilding, and engines testing. Program Outcomes Graduates of the Automotive Technician program will be able to: Demonstrate basic positive communication skills needed for dealing with customers and others in a professional manner. Develop safe procedures and practices for all phases of service and repair of automobiles, test equipment and machinery and for handling the chemicals and solvents used in the repair and cleaning of automotive systems and parts. Develop a working knowledge of repair manuals and computer programs used by technicians in the servicing of vehicles produced today. Demonstrate technical ability and competency in each of the eight areas of automotive service excellence standards: electrical/electronic systems; automatic transmissions/transaxles; manual drive train and axles; suspension and steering; brakes; heating and air conditioning; engine performance; and engine repair.
