Criminal Justice from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University is a Campus Bachelor Criminal Justice degree that prepares you for a Legal career. The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice provides program of study leading to bachelor degree: the Bachelor of Criminal Justice. The Department offers minors in anthropology, sociology, criminal justice and juvenile justice. In our program, students' growth and development are our first priority, and we endeavor to provide a first-rate education for each student. A total of 120 semester credit hours are required for a baccalaureate degree?60 lower level credit hours and 60 upper level credit hours. Students are encouraged to master the skills essential for their chosen profession and to become productive, thoughtful and ethical citizens. Requirements for a Major in Criminal Justice: (Bachelor of Criminal Justice Degree) The components of Criminal Justice offerings consist of theory, research, criminal law, law enforcement, corrections, and juvenile justice . To major in criminal justice, a student must complete 30 semester hours of upper division criminal justice courses, including CCJ 3117, CCJ 4700, CCJ 3702, CCJ 4065, CJL 3510, and CJL 4012. Students must master CCJ 2010, "Introduction to Criminal Justice" before taking upper level courses. It is expected that these 18 semester credit hours of core courses will be taken at Florida A&M University. The additional 12 semester hours are to be taken from a single substantive area (nine semester hours) and one other course (three semester hours) from any criminal justice area (including special topics). Students may choose from the substantive areas of: (1) legal studies , (2) minority and gender studies, (3) juvenile justice , or (4) corrections. (A law enforcement substantive area option is under development). Internships are available for students to acquire experience in their chosen field of study. The internship is optional, but students are strongly encouraged to arrange their schedules so that they can complete an internship before they graduate. Graduates of the program will be qualified to work in agencies throughout the criminal justice system or enter graduate or law school.
