The Industry: Students successfully completing courses in the Industrial Engineering Technology program will develop the skills to install, service and repair machines and equipment common to all industries. Industrial Engineering Technicians are employed in almost every type of industry. Within many of the industries they may assist in performing maintenance tasks as assigned requiring application of gained knowledge and skills including trouble-shooting, repairs, reworks and preventive maintenance. They must perform demanding tasks such as using test equipment, interpreting procedures and schematics, and providing documentation. Industrial Engineering Technicians can work both independently and in teams. They install electrical circuits and conduit; rewire; recover, reclaim, and recycle freon; program controllers; build hydraulic and pneumatic circuits. Physical dexterity and heavy weight lifting is required, as well as the ability to work in confined spaces, on scaffolding and ladder rigging. Industrial Engineering Technicians perform tasks both indoors and outdoors. They must adhere to safe work practices and to all company procedures and policies at all times. The Program: Prerequisites Must be at least 16 years of age. Must have graduated from high school, have received a GED diploma, or be concurrently enrolled in high school. 1 -year Technical Certificate The Industrial Engineering Technology certificate program, which contains technical education courses, is two semesters in length. Graduates will possess the knowledge and skills needed to install, service and repair machines and equipment common to all industries. A program advisory committee, composed of industrial maintenance representatives, annually updates industry expectations. Graduates may opt for immediate employment or transfer their certificate credits to the Industrial Engineering Technology AAS degree program and continue their education. Students will have the opportunity to achieve the following certifications: HVAC & R, Electrical Section 608 Clean Air Act (EPA), Boiler Operation and Controls, and Siemens Energy and Automation.
