Practical Nursing - Erie Business Center - South

Practical Nursing from Erie Business Center - South is a Campus Certificate Nursing Education degree that prepares you for a Nursing career. Through EBC's Practical Nursing Program, students receive classroom and laboratory instruction as well as clinical experience in providing nursing care. The program is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to obtain entry-level practical nursing employment in hospital settings, physicians' offices, clinical settings, nursing homes, home health care services, residential care facilities, schools, temporary help agencies and/or government agencies. Located at 252 West 11th Street, the program incorporates curriculum focused on caring for people with illnesses, injuries and disabilities under the direction of physicians and registered nurses . Students receive clinical experience at Erie area health care and nursing facilities and have access to an exclusive online tutorial that provides practice examinations, content enrichment and nationally standardized tests, among other features. The primary objective of the program is to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to pass a licensing examination (the NCLEX-PN) after completion of the program. Students also receive instruction in the interdisciplinary components of practical nursing. Upon completion of the Practical Nursing Program, graduates should be able to: Use medical terminology, abbreviations and symbols. Have a basic knowledge of medications. Perform standard procedures such as dressing changes, intravenous management, laboratory blood draws and collection of body fluids. Complete ethical and confidential patient charting, monitor vital signs and distribute prescribed medications.
