English from Emporia State University is a Campus Master English degree that prepares you for a Liberal Arts career. The Department of English is proud to offer an M.A. program in which students are encouraged not just to learn about contemporary developments in the discipline, but to take an active part in professional conferences, publications, and creative endeavors. Three courses of study are available: literature, creative writing, and community-college/high-school teaching. Our curriculum incorporates a wide range of historical and theoretical approaches to the study of texts and languages , and to the practices of teaching, research, and writing. For some of our recent graduates, the M.A. in English has led to nationally-ranked Ph.D. programs, among them the University of Minnesota, the University of California-Riverside, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Other M.A. graduates have chosen to pursue corporate and government employment, secondary teaching, and teaching in community colleges. Our program prepares students for these career paths by combining a flexible, individually-tailored academic curriculum with opportunities for supervised training and teaching in ESU's Composition Program and Writing Center.
