Program Description The Adult Nurse Practitioner Program prepares nurses for advanced practice through a course of study focused on the care of medical/surgical patients and their families. Clinical emphasis on a wide variety of subspecialties such as neurology, nephrology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, cardiology, and pulmonology is also available. Based on the clinical focus of the student, graduates are eligible for adult nurse practitioner certification. The graduate is also prepared to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing and increasingly complex health care environment. Courses in advanced health assessment, advanced pharmacology, and management of acute and chronically ill adults are combined with medical/surgical seminars and clinical experiences in a wide variety of settings to create a dynamic forum for exploring the role of the advanced practice nurse. Seminars and clinical experiences emphasize the physiological and psychosocial impact of illness on the patient and family, as well as diagnosis and management of health problems. The three-semester, 41 credit hour program may be pursued in full-time or part-time enrollment status. Graduates have over 600 hours of directly supervised clinical practice.
