LSM majors and minors develop the necessary knowledge and skills to thrive in careers related to professional and amateur sport, event management and programming, facilities , hotels, resorts, travel and tourism. There are emphases on entrepreneurship, marketing and all aspects of leisure and sport management . Students develop a ?service? sensitivity and skills for a variety of career interests. The LSM program focuses on five major areas: facilities, sport (professional, amateur, spectator and participant), public recreation, cultural arts and tourism. Within that framework, students build a foundation in philosophy of leisure and sport, learn the fundamentals of business administration and sharpen their interpersonal skills. Comprehensive curriculum Elon offers a Bachelor of Science degree in LSM. Elon is one of a few institutions nationwide to effectively combine leisure studies with sport management, providing unique and comprehensive career preparation. In your course work, you will learn about the role of leisure and sport management in society. Additional courses cover the fundamentals of facility planning and maintenance; important terminology, philosophies, and evolution of leisure and sport; relevant contemporary issues; principles of special event programming; and marketing. LSM majors also take classes that examine concepts such as finance, communication and research strategies, and legal issues such as contracts, personal and product liability, negligence and risk management. After graduation LSM students are well-prepared for a variety of careers and graduate studies. Most students go directly into employment in professional and amateur sport organizations; private and commercial sport, fitness and recreation settings; public parks and recreation departments; sporting goods sales and marketing; resort/hotel management; and various related entrepreneurial and traditional career options.
