Early Childhood Development from Edison State Community College is a Campus Associate Child Care degree that prepares you for a Human Services career. Mission Statement It is the mission of the Early Childhood Development program to prepare students with the knowledge, theory, and practical experience necessary to plan, implement, and evaluate nurturing, developmentally appropriate experiences for young children and their families in a variety of settings and in a variety of positions from entry level to director. ECD Program Outcomes: At the end of the degree program, the student will: 1. Apply general education knowledge and competency in spoken and written communication, mathematics, the humanities, and social sciences; 2. Use core content knowledge and theory in child development; 3. Practice planning, implementing and evaluating a developmentally appropriate program of activities for young children; 4. Carry out practical experiences in working with young children and their families in a variety of settings; 5. Assume responsibility for the nurture, care, and education of a group of young children; 6. Use methods that foster development of self-control and self-discipline in young children while building positive self-esteem; 7. Relate the historical and social foundations of the child care field and the education of young children; 8. Provide an inclusive environment that will serve the needs of children with special needs and their families; 9. Be aware of the variety of resources available in the community and through this awareness help families in need; 10. Use methods of fostering respect and appreciation of diversity in early childhood settings, including anti-bias practices; 11. Value professional growth as a lifelong process; 12. Demonstrate the knowledge and competencies required to meet Ohio Department of Education licensing requirements and/or Department of Education licensing requirements and to obtain applicable permits, certificates, and/or credentials.
