Students will meet the foundational requirements as prerequisites to full admission. 1. Students will be able to operate a computer system to solve problems. Students will be able to explore, evaluate, and use computer/technology-based materials for educational purposes. Students will be able to demonstrate a knowledge of multimedia, hypermedia, and telecommunication activities to support instruction. Students will be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the educational uses of productivity tools. Students will be able to describe appropriate sources for hardware and software acquisition purposes. Students will be able to identify sources of information required for professional development and for staying current. Students will be able to teach computer/technology literacy courses for K-12 students and peers. 2. Students will be cognizant of the impact of technology on society. Students will understand the computing needs of literate citizens. Students will understand the ethical concerns relating to computing and technology use. Students will understand the educational concerns associated with use of the internet. Students will be aware of the ethical standards required of teachers of Computer Science. 3. Students will understand the issues and processes for integrating computer/technology use into the curriculum. Students will be able to design and implement computer/technology-based learning materials and activities. Students will understand the equity (of access) issues involved in the use of computers/technology in education . Students will be able to translate research findings and directions into implications for the design of computer/technology-supported education. 4. Students will acquire knowledge of the methods, techniques, and strategies for use of computer/technology authoring tools. Students will be able to demonstrate the use of several high level authoring systems. Students will understand how to teach the use of authoring systems to K-12 students and peers. Students will be able to design and create multimedia materials and activities for students. 5. Students will have a general understanding of several typical K-12 computer systems. Students will be able to operate a variety of K-12 systems for a variety of purposes. Students will be able to evaluate K-12 systems for acquisition. Students will understand policies, procedures, and mechanisms for managing computer/multimedia labs. Students will be able to operate a computer network. Students will understand policies, procedures, and mechanisms for managing computer networks and for Internet use. 6. Students will have a general understanding of K-12 software. Students will know a sizable collection of sources for educational software and evaluative information about educational software. Students will be capable of evaluating K-12 software for specific purposes. Students will understand the processes to install, maintain, and manage a library of software. Students will understand the legal and ethical issues in software acquisition and use. Students will understand the processes and concerns for information access and delivery. Students will know about available information tools and sources for their acquisition. Students will know about sources of information. 7. Students will understand the role of multimedia in information delivery. Students will understand the role of the Internet in information acquisition. Students will understand the educational roles of browsing, accessing, collecting, storing, indexing, analyzing, and publishing information using the Internet. 8. Students will be knowledgeable about staff development. Students will be able to design and conduct staff development programs. Students will be knowledgeable about sources for information about staff development. Students will be knowledgeable about the role of the Internet and opportunities for staff development.
