Emergency Medical Technician Basic from Eastern New Mexico University - Roswell Campus is a Campus Certificate Medical Emergency degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. This nine and a half hour (9.5) course of study consists of approximately 200 clock hours of classroom and clinical time, providing a solid introduction to the field of pre-hospital emergency medical care. Emphasis is placed on recognition and basic life support treatment of emergency medical and traumatic conditions. After successful completion of the program, the graduate is eligible for the New Mexico Injury Prevention/EMS Bureau's Exam and the National Registry of EMT's Exam and capable of performing the following functions at the minimum entry level: Recognize the nature and seriousness of the patient's condition or extent of injuries to assess requirements for emergency medical care. Administer appropriate emergency medical care based on assessment findings of the patient's condition. Lift, move, position and otherwise handle the patient to minimize discomfort and prevent further injury. Perform safely and effectively the expectations of the job description.
