Licensed Practical Nurse from Dutchess BOCES - School of Practical Nursing is a Campus Certificate Nursing Education degree that prepares you for a Nursing career. Course Description: Licensed Practical Nurse I is a one year course approved by the New York State Education Department. This 500 hour program is taught half days over one year. This course is open to high school seniors who have successfully completed Pre-Nursing. This course is available to young men and women who will be taught to function appropriately within various levels of patient care, encompassing supportive, preventative, curative and rehabilitative aspects of different health care settings throughout Dutchess County. The local community hospitals, nursing homes and state hospitals are used for clinical patient experiences. Upon successful completion of the program the Licensed Practical Nurse I student is eligible for entry into the Licensed Practical Nurse II course the following academic year as an adult learner. The adult Licensed Practical Nurse program is eligible for financial aid. Licensed Practical Nurse Program Objectives: 1. Analyze her/his potential and select appropriate goals for vocational mobility. 2. Meet the basic needs of patients assigned to her/his care. 3. Administer effective individual patient care through the application of the nursing process. 4. Perform as a reliable member of the health team under the supervision of a professional nurse. 5. Give skilled nursing care within the scope of the law and in accordance with the "Code of Ethics" established by the National League for Nursing. 6. Show a willingness to keep abreast of changes by participating actively in her/his vocational organizations. 7. Demonstrate a knowledge of the major health problems affecting our society and the roles of organizations and control.
