Africana Studies from Dickinson College is a Campus Bachelor Area Studies degree that prepares you for a Liberal Arts career. Africana studies is the transdisciplinary study of the diverse experiences of African people worldwide, focused especially but not exclusively on African American, African and Caribbean affairs and culture. Using the tools of the social sciences and humanities, Africana studies examines the structure, organization, problems and perspectives of Blacks in Africa and the African Diaspora, past and present. Africana studies is Dickinson's newest major, and the 2008-09 academic year will be devoted to personnel and curriculum development. Students may, however, declare an interest in the field and enroll in courses in various disciplines that can be applied to the major when the program is fully instituted.
