Health Information Technology from Delgado Community College is a Campus Associate Health Administration degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. Health Information is the profession that focuses on health care data and the management of health care information resources. The profession addresses the nature, structure, and translation of data into usable forms of information for the advancement of individual and population health . Health information professionals, or accredited record technicians , perform technical health information management (medical records) functions in various health care facilities. These functions many include organizing health records , coding symptoms, diseases, operations, procedures and other therapies according to recognized classification systems, inputting and retrieving computerized health data, and controlling the usage and release of health information. Delgado's Health Information Technology Program is a two-year Associate of Science degree program. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to write the national qualifying examination for certification as a Registered Health Information Technologist. The successful completion of the examination will entitle an individual to use the credentials of a Registered Health Information Technologist , R.H.I.T. The credentials, R.H.I.T., are recognized throughout the United States and will not require an additional examination if an individual moves to another state.
