Curriculum Description The Automotive Systems Technology curriculum prepares individuals for employment as Automotive Service Technicians . Competencies Upon successful completion of this program, the student should be able to: 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the theory of the operation of an automobile gasoline engine, air conditioning, braking, and chassis systems and use approved safety practices while working on a vehicle. 2. Use critical thinking skills to analyze and diagnose drive train system problems, fuel and emission systems problems, and repair or replace defective components. 3. Manage the day-to-day responsibilities of an entry-level auto systems technician by managing time effectively, working effectively and ethically with others, demonstrating dependability, and completing tasks satisfactorily. 4. Perform minor or major repairs on chassis and hydraulic braking systems. 5. Diagnose electrical system problems by using specialized test equipment. 6. Maintain the cleanliness and integrity of equipment, tools, and supplies in an auto mechanics shop and service vehicle. 7. Communicate effectively with customers and co-workers through written and oral communication. 8.
