Premedical Studies from CUNY City College is a Campus Bachelor Pre-Medical degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. Our outstanding Program in Premedical Studies (PPS) is designed to prepare students for careers in medicine, dentistry, osteopathy, veterinary medicine, optometry and podiatry. Mission Statement The mission of the Program in Premedical Studies (PPS) of the Division of Science of the City College of New York is to identify and prepare undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students for entry into the professional programs in the health sciences (medicine, dentistry, osteopathy, optometry, podiatry, and veterinary sciences). The program advances students' knowledge of careers in the health sciences through academic advisement, tutoring services, workshops, and symposia. Students are referred to hospitals and other clinical centers to provide volunteer and research opportunities to facilitate their clinical shadowing experience, which carries significant weight in a professional school admissions application. The Premedical Studies Office guides students through the application process with information on timeliness, and assistance with personal statements, and preparation for interviews. Undergraduate Requirements If you are an undergraduate student currently enrolled at CCNY and interested in applying to the Program in Premedical Studies (PPS), you must: submit an undergraduate application. have a cumulative 3.0 GPA as well as a 3.0 GPA in science courses; have completed one year in general biology; one semester of general chemistry; one semester of calculus. Upon acceptance to PPS, students will be given a pre-MCAT exam that will include the lower level science (Biological and Physical Sciences) content. This information will give the student and the advisor a clearer understanding of what material needs to be reinforced as the student prepares to submit an application to the professional program of their choice. Students will also be asked to submit a personal statement upon acceptance to the PPS.
