Occupational Therapy from Creighton University is a Campus Certificate Occupational Therapy degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. What is Occupational Therapy? Occupational Therapy is the art and science of facilitating well-being through occupation. The term ?occupation? represents the flow of activities that fill a person's life and that have an effect on his or her health. The profession is particularly concerned with how people construct meaningful lives individually and in community. Program Overview In the view of Occupational Therapy, well-being is achieved through an active, dynamic and evolving balance between the person and his or her environment. Occupational therapists intervene when illness, disability or social constraints threaten the person's ability to actively create or find that balance. Because Occupational Therapy views people as multidimensional beings, it blends knowledge from the biological and social sciences into a unique, distinct and holistic profession. In order to use occupation strategically, occupational therapists have expertise in how the body, mind and spirit work together to produce occupations as simple as feeding oneself or as complex as leading a hundred-piece orchestra. Creighton University offers a unique opportunity for doctoral level study in Occupational Therapy. Creighton's program is the first entry level (no baccalaureate degree required) occupational therapy professional doctorate in the country. Since the fall of 1999, the Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) has been the sole professional occupational therapy degree offered to students matriculating into the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. Graduates from the OTD program are prepared to assume leadership roles in professional service, administration, teaching, collaborative research, ethics and health policy development, and to engage in work that is morally responsive to the needs of clients and communities they are entrusted to serve. Creighton's OTD program prepares graduates to fulfill all traditional duties of occupational therapists while helping them become transformative leaders of the profession. The program is based on models of other professional doctorate degrees in health sciences, such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and physical therapy. Significant growth in the depth and scope of occupational therapy practice calls for advanced education in a number of areas. View more details on Creighton University .
