Environmental Science from Concordia University - Austin is a Campus Bachelor Enviroment degree that prepares you for a Science career. The environmental science program is designed to help students develop the behaviors, skills, attitudes, and knowledge consistent with the mission of Concordia University Texas and consistent with ideals of Christian stewardship in dealing with the biophysical environment. To that end, students who major in environmental science are required to develop a systems approach to environmental concerns; drawing from disciplines such as biology, chemistry, ecology, earth science , geography, and economics. The program seeks to provide a balanced treatment of the need for sustained economic growth and resource use with management practices consistent with good stewardship. Career Possibilities Never before have federal, state, and municipal governments placed such a high priority on environmental concerns by passing laws aimed at endangered species protection, pollution monitoring, land-use planning, recycling, and remediation. In past years graduates of Concordia University's Environmental Science program have obtained jobs in environmental agencies such as the City of Austin's Environmental and Conservation Services Department, the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission, the National Wildflower Research Center, and also with numerous environmental consulting firms. Many companies have environmental management departments and our graduates have found careers with firms in Texas and in other parts of the country. Some graduates have become certified as teachers and now teach others about conservation and environmental science and others have entered graduate programs at major universities in programs such as environmental education and landscape architecture.
