Media Communications from College of the Siskiyous is a Campus Associate Media Studies degree that prepares you for a Communications career. The Media Communications program is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in the broadcast television, cable television, and independent video industries. Television and video is a force uniquely important in today's world. Our cultural values are largely influenced by the mass media. The technology is changing at a very rapid pace which is opening up many opportunities for employment. Careers in Media Communications Television touches all of our lives. It teaches, it entertains, it amuses, and it informs. In the last 50 years television has evolved from a curiosity and a luxury to a necessity in virtually every home in America. Television not only records events, but also shapes history as people in one part of the world see and react to instantaneous images from a distant land. The vast influence of television on our society makes this medium an exciting professional challenge. A career in the media can be a career on the cutting edge of technology, journalism, entertainment, and electronic communication. The Media Communications program has recently been able to go digital through a grant from the U.S. Forest Service. Students produced four seasonal tourism videos which air daily on the local television. Our TV studio is equipped with state-of-the-art digital video camcorders and digital nonlinear video editing.
