Human Services Developmental Disability - College of DuPage

Human Services Developmental Disability from College of DuPage is a Campus Associate Human Science degree that prepares you for a Human Services career. The Developmental Disability in Human Services program at College of DuPage prepares students to work with a wide range of special populations, including developmentally challenged individuals and people with physical and/or cognitive challenges. Individuals in this field are employed in both in-patient and out-patient treatment centers, residential living facilities and community-based agencies. Developmental Disabilities assistants participate as a team member in the assessment of the needs of developmentally disabled clients; in the development, implementation and coordination of an individual program plan for the client; and as a client advocate. Students in Developmental Disability program at C.O.D. are trained to work with either child or adult populations. The program provides an introduction to developmental disabilities as well as an overview of contemporary treatment approaches, behavior modification, cross-cultural communications, addictions, ethics in counseling, family education and treatment models, crisis intervention, advocacy, interpersonal dynamics, group dynamics, and developmental psychology.
