Based in the Humanities Department, the Communication Studies Program is an interdisciplinary major that presents communication theories, issues, and hands-on experiences in a liberal arts context. Communication Studies students learn to become articulate in all media ? spoken and written language, still and moving images ? as they simultaneously develop an awareness of the social contexts in which they communicate. They develop skills in speaking, writing, seeing, and thinking, while specializing in audio, video, and multimedia production, as well as print and writing. Students also analyze the history and role of mass media society, while considering the legal and ethical concerns faced by professionals. In addition to studying communications theory, students have the opportunity to hone their communication skills while participating in the on-campus video news magazine, Colby-Sawyer Insights; the student newspaper, the Colby-Sawyer Courier; and/or the college-community radio station, WSCS 90.9 FM.
