French from Coker College is a Campus Bachelor Language degree that prepares you for a Liberal Arts career. The courses are intended to provide a comprehensive program of study that enables the serious student to attain a useful fluency in the French language and a broad understanding of French history, culture, and literature . Elementary and intermediate courses are designed to impart basic skills necessary for communication; each level above 101 presupposes the knowledge and skill gained in the level immediately preceding it. Admission to any course above 101 is dependent either upon completion of the preceding course or, as regards transfer students and students seeking advanced placement, upon passing a proficiency test and/or upon permission of the instructor. Courses at the 300 and 400 levels are structured to provide a comprehensive exposure to the variety and richness of French civilization and to further refine the student's command of the French language. Elementary and intermediate courses will be conducted in French as much as possible; courses above the intermediate level will be conducted wholly in French with the exception of the literature course in English translation.
